It’s May, and wedding season is just around the corner again, along with the hassle and hype that follow that age old question, “what should I wear?” A wedding is an amazing occasion to show off some of our fancier, cocktail worthy outfits, including of course, jewelry and accessories. And for a traditional wedding or a classy affair, there are a few rules of thumb that should always be followed to insure that you’ll be the perfectly dressed guest.
First off, fabrics should never be too loud. Things like large or busy floral print, super shiny metallics, animal prints, or extremely bright colors should be avoided at all costs. Subdued and visually pleasant pastel hues, neutrals with a little sheen or detailing, and even solid black are the perfect starter for a wedding guest’s outfit and can all be dressed up just right with jewelry and the right accessories.
For example: a solid black or neutral sleeveless dress looks polished and pretty when paired with dangling earrings and a few bangles.
When it comes to necklaces, always stick with something classic and simple, and try to stay away from pendants that are too large or chains with excessive layering.
Tips and Tricks:
For those of us who have more than one, or even several weddings to attend, there are a few easy ways to get more bang for your accessorizing buck.
If you wear a nice pendant necklace to one wedding with a cropped or fitted jacket and a simple updo, next time the same dress can be worn with a different cover-up and the same pendant can be used as an elegant hair accessory. Just remove the pendant from the necklace, pin into place with bobby pins or snap clips, adjust the hair to cover anything you don’t want seen, and presto!
The same goes for cocktail rings, which can later be re-purposed into a hair adornment, necklace dangle, or brooch.

The traditional gift idea that’s making a big come back for unregistered or low-budget brides? Keepsakes. The wedding keepsake has become a huge lifesaver for those of us who get to the store late when the registry has already been picked over or are friends of the bride who didn’t register at all. Some favorites include: fancy photo frames, small decorative keepsake trunks, kits for pressing wedding flowers, and photo lockets.
