Q: I’m trying to convince my mom to let me get a piercing, but she says there are a lot of risks. Are there really that many risks or is she trying to convince me against it? -Lexi
A: Your mom is correct in that piercing does come with risks. These include the risk of rejection, risk of infection, risk of scarring, and the risk of irritation. The best thing you can do is try to minimize these risks by doing plenty of research into both the piercing you want and the piercer you want to go to. Look at their portfolio, read reviews, look at social media to see what people are saying about them. Read up on the piercing, know if it frequently rejects, find out how long it takes to heal and what the aftercare procedure is. By arming yourself with plenty of knowledge, you can manage the risks to make sure your piercing experience is as safe as possible and has the positive outcome you’re looking for. Happy piercing!
Q: My question is if it is possible to wear a hoop for a snug piercing or if it is only limited to curved barbells? Thanks. Joe
A: So yes, a snug piercing can be fitted with a small captive ring or other circular styles of jewelry. However, this can be anatomy-dependent, and it may be best to discuss with your piercer whether it should be pierced with circular jewelry if that is what you plan to wear. It can be difficult to switch from curved to circular jewelry with many piercings as the fistula healed in the shape of the piercing jewelry. This can cause discomfort or even irritation bumps if you change the jewelry shape after healing. Best of luck!
