1.) Midline Tongue Piercing
The midline tongue piercing is located in the center of the tongue. This oral piercing is the most common placement for the tongue and is what you would typically think of when you think "tongue ring."
The piercing is done by pushing a needle vertically down through the center of the tongue. The most common body jewelry used for this is a straight barbell with a ball placed on the top and bottom of the tongue.
2.) Side Tongue Piercing
This oral piercing is a lot like the midline tongue piercing, except it is done slightly to the left or right of the middle of the tongue.
The process of piercing this is the same as the midline - a needle is pushed vertically down through the tongue. The body jewelry used for this is a straight barbell with a ball placed on both the top and bottom of the tongue.
3.) Horizontal/Vertical Tongue Piercing
Taking place in the center of the tongue, this body jewelry placement is a more unusual kind of oral piercing.
Instead of going straight through the tongue, the needle will enter and exit through the top of the tongue, either horizontally or vertically. This creates two holes which will be connected with a small straight barbell. By doing this, it looks as though you have a double piercing in your tongue.
4.) Snake Eyes Tongue Piercing
Much like the horizontal/vertical tongue piercing, this consists of entrance and exit holes on the top of the tongue.
Rather than in the middle of the tongue, a snake eyes piercing is done at the very tip. A straight or curved barbell is pushed through these holes. The beads on each end take on the appearance of a snakehead with two beady eyes (pun intended).
Disclaimer: Some piercers advise against getting snake eye piercings. Make sure you are well-informed before getting this procedure done!
5. Frenulum Tongue Piercing
Also known as the web piercing, this pierces the web of skin beneath the tongue.
Out of all the body jewelry placements you can have on your tongue, this one is the most simple. The body jewelry of choice for this placement is either a curved barbell, horseshoe ring, or a captive bead ring.
If you choose to go with the captive bead ring or the horseshoe curved barbell it will be much more noticeable.
You can also pierce the frenulums of your lips, which are sometimes called "smiley" or "frowny" piercings
Whether you want to go with the more classical look with the midline tongue piercing or the less known frenulum, we wish you good luck! We have endless options for oral body jewelry for you to pick from. We even offer vibrator tongue rings if that suits your fancy. There are so many surprises in the world of body jewelry!
