Some piercings are a bit more extreme than others and, therefore, not as commonly seen. But here’s one that you may have seen and not even realized what you were looking at. That would be the nasallang piercing. The nasallang is named as a reference to another piercing that’s done in the same way, but on an entirely different part of the body that we aren’t going to talk about. (But feel free to look that up if you’re over eighteen.) It’s a single barbell that connects three points of the nose – left nostril, septum, right nostril. This is why you may not have realized that you saw one in the wild. Unless you’re actually looking up someone’s nose, it’s going to look like paired high nostril piercings.
This piercing is more one of those piercings that people get to be able to say that they got it and healed it. There’s no particular benefit that comes from it, the jewelry options aren’t as many as getting paired high nostrils, and it’s a larger gauge three-point piercing so the experience of getting one is going to be decidedly uncomfortable. Also, the central piercing is done at a higher place than a standard septum piercing so it’s not going through that squishy alar cartilage. It’s actually going through regular nasal cartilage, which is simply going to hurt more.
This piercing, being as advanced as it is, means you would need to find a piercer who has experience doing them. And not as in “Yeah, I’ve done this once or twice” experience but someone who can show you a portfolio with several properly done nasallangs. Preferably, they should also have some pictures of those piercings after they have healed entirely. Unless such a piercer is working in your area, this can add an extra layer of challenge to getting one of these or else it means you’ll have to travel.
Another thing to keep in mind is the healing process. This is not going to be a smooth or fast healing piercing. Not only is it multiple points, it’s also a larger gauge piercing. There will be a good deal of swelling and healing will take time. A lot of time. If you thought your nostril took forever to heal, this piercing is not for you. This is a piercing that requires patience and a lot of it.
Potential complications of a nasallang piercing, should you decide to get one, are the same as pretty much every other piercing. Things like infection, keloids, and scarring can occur and proper aftercare is vital.
We’re not trying to talk you out of getting a nasallang of your own. Piercing is a personal choice about personal style and if that is the piercing of your dreams then more power to you. Just make sure to go to an experienced piercer, to take proper care of it during healing process, and to be patient. And remember, if you really like the look but cannot get the actual piercing or simply don’t wish to deal with healing and such, you can totally get the same look with paired high nostrils. Nobody’s going to know. Happy piercing!
