The holidays have seen a rise in retro style art and typography, and it’s true that nothing says Christmas like a goose in the oven, a flower in the hair, and of course the required dose of polka dots. So how does it translate to alternative fashion?
For the most part the retro piercing aesthetic is populated with hoop style jewelry, classic clear gems, standard silver and gold tones, and simple motifs like bells and stars.
There are, however, a few deviations, like gem encrusted labrets paired with retro makeup and hair dos. It’s enough bling to scream holiday and enough simplicity to fit seamlessly into vintage styling.
The same can be said for holiday belly rings with full color art or charms that incorporate gently retro, traditional elements of the Christmas season, like wreaths, bows, and candy canes.
Eat your heart out, Currier and Ives. This holiday is bound to be a pretty (and pierced) picture.
